Fancy That! A colour scheme for make-believe…

The brief:

Our client had just purchased a Costume business and wanted to refresh the brand to draw in new customers. The client’s philosophy is that “Grown ups should play more!” and that “Life is too important to be taken seriously.

The solution:

The simplest way was to update the paint colours and de-clutter some of the existing cabinets to create more space for the large variety of costume accessories. To update the look from the existing minty-green pirate ship theme, we used bold, bright playful Dulux paint colour ‘Blue Tulip’ (a deep and sophisticated purple) as the feature colour, and ‘Lickedy-Lick’ (a playful pink) to accent the hand-railings. This scheme was tied together with a sophisticated neutral ‘Puddle’.

The original store counter is a key feature of the store, but resembled a horse stable, as it was all brown! A splash of ‘Blue Tulip’ on the counter-front transformed it into a more sophisticated look.

Before and After - Sales counter

The original store counter was given a make-over in 'Blue Tulip'

The result:

The exterior became a delight – capturing attention of passing people, whose curiousity was piqued at the bright pink door, and what mysterious playland lay beyond.

Fancy That! exterior & interior entry

Goodbye mint green...hello to a new, playful, captivating colour scheme conveying a whimsical playland...for grown-ups

The interior became much fresher, and the counter and accessory sales areas were de-cluttered, and appeared much more spacious, to encourage a more interactive space where customers could browse the perfect accessories, stockings, wigs and hats to add the finishing touch to their outfit.

Before and after - main sales area

The worn out brown & mint green interior was rejuvenated into a whimsical boutique with more space to showcase those accessories!

The boutique store was given a colourful renovation – evoking a sense of outrageous, whimsical fun. Once you step into the store, you are guided up the stairs by the glossy pink handrail in “Lickedy-Lick”. Each step takes you away from the mundane reality outside, and deeper into a real-life Aladdin’s cave, where you can make-believe at what character you’ll be at your next soiree. You can’t help but smile in anticipation at what treasures and costume goodies you are about to discover in this gem of a costume treasure trove!
