In relation to Interiors (or building exteriors!) a colour consultant gives advice on paint colours and furnishings. This could range from a single colour for a feature wall, to a whole colour scheme for your entire property or specific rooms, or even helping you colour match existing colours if you are trying to freshen up the current space. What is Seasonal and Tonal Colour Analysis?

Your unique skin tone is determined by the combination of three pigments – melanine (brown), carotene (yellow) and haemoglobin (red). A person with warm colouring (golden or honey-based skin) will have more carotene, while a person with cool colouring (blue or rose-toned skin) will have more haemoglobin.Level of contrast, hair and eye colour also influence your overall personal colouring.

In the 1980s, Seasonal Colour Analysis was the predominant system for classifying people into four categories – Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. However, it was soon realized that not everyone is strictly warm or cool, and additional Tonal Colour Analysis techniques were developed to give further accuracy and understanding, and which can be used for people of all ethnicities. Tonal Colour Analysis enables us to identify the characteristic of the colours that are most flattering for a client, in an easy to understand way. Tonal Colour Analysis is derived from the Munsell Colour System (a universally recognized scientific colour classification system) which defines all colours by their depth, clarity and undertone.

Colour Analysis Theory makes it possible to determine and understand why certain colours look great on some people, but unflattering on others. The benefits for people who understand their colours include confidence in buying clothes, more versatile wardrobes, less money wasted on unflattering clothes, and more compliments from friends and colleagues!
